Yuletide Assignments YAYZ!

Got my [info]yuletide assignment (my spam filter ate it, predictably)!! *twirks*

Gonna be a challenge, I can already tell. Wish my person wrote a "dear yuletide author" letter though. Hmm.

Elsewhere on the planet:

Had my first migraine since getting preggers and having the baby. SUCKED with a capital S. Luckily, I had some leftover migraine meds, and am getting them refilled STAT!

Am going to leave at half-day today to get some junk done. Namely, going to the store to see about getting snowflake light-sticks to stick in the ground for Christmas. Because I'm lazy and don't want to string lights all over the front of the house.

Cold Front just blew in. Gonna go from 75 degrees to 40 by morning. Awesome. Headache, here we come!

Fringe's Numbers Bounce Back

*WHEEW*

Fringe's numbers make a come back this week, back to a 2.2, or it's season average. Not what I'd like to see for it, but I'll take anything over last week's dismal ratings.

Mentalist still kicks crime-drama ass, as usual. 16 million viewers with a 3.6 in the 18-49. BooYAH! Simon Baker's smile is quite a draw. *grin*

In other news,

Baby Einstein DVDs are HIGHLY entertaining. And I love the music.

And I've had a headache for 2 days, and it's time for it to stop. Not a migraine, but still very annoying. I want to write, damnit! Can't concentrate with a flipping headache!

Fringe: "Of Human Action" and Mentalist: "Red Bulls"

[info]alamo_girl80

GLEE: Rachel...please. STFU.

Loved GLEE last night. Love the disabilities awareness. Loved the music, as usual.

Frakking *HEART* Sue. Seriously. She's my hero.

But Rachel...needs to go. Or shutthefuckup. Because the entitlement, self-centered, diva starlet wannabe piss-and-moan fest has gotten BEYOND old.

Being in an ensemble or choir means you share the spotlight. You aren't the best all the time. Get over it. If you want to be a solo star get on Americango suck theIdol.

I don't care that she and Fin are fated-to-be, or whatever. Rachel needs her ego deflated and her whine-o-meter shorted out, or she just needs to get the hell out.

Network Maintenance: Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 04:00-06:00 UTC/GMT

EDIT@08:16 UTC/GMT. Wow. That was ugly. I expected it to go for 30 minutes and have maybe 1 minute of broken connectivity. Instead it lasted over 4 hours and we had 10 minutes of downtime directly related to the load balancer upgrades and then another 5-10 minutes of downtime when our primary Pingback database server crashed and the secondary couldn't take over; which could have been indirectly caused by the network upgrade missing a self-VIP.

Anyways, we're up, we're working, the load balancers are barely breaking a sweat right now and I need some food and a shot of whiskey. I don't even *like* whiskey!!

Thanks [info]mhwest and [info]dnewhall for helping out!

---

On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

It's my Anniversary and I pose a NCIS Gibbs/Abby question...

Today is mine and hubster's 4th wedding anniversary. *twirls* Been together 8 years, married 4 of them. No wonder it seems like we've been together so long. Jeeze!

But in other news, since posting about last night's NCIS episode (and I know several of the f-list watch the show) I pose this question to all of you NCIS fans:

What is the extent of the Gibbs/Abby relationship? Is it just fatherly affection in Gibbs' eyes/voice when he's with her, in his protectiveness and his physical displays of affection? Or is it more?

Because I'll be damned if I know. I'll think I have them pegged sometimes. Oh, it's just fatherly. Abby's the grown daughter he doesn't have (although that's sorta showing weird in  my head since the actress is nearly 40, I think). They've known each other a long time, and since she's not under his direct leadership, he can feel free to be affectionate with a woman he cares about - where he couldn't with Kate or Ziva because they are/were his underlings.

And then, episodes like "Bloodbath" come out and I'm climbing into the Gibbs/Abby 'ship fanwagon and asking for a beer from the throngs of 'shippers already there.

Sometimes, he kisses her, and the look in his eyes is just a tad south of fatherly, and the kiss lingers just a smidge too long to just be friendly. And while he's protective of his entire team, if Abby is in trouble, Gibbs is down-right homicidal. (although, I do love that even while Ziva is all dangerous and deadly and kickass, when she's in trouble/vulnerable, she goes to Gibbs for protection. "I need you to come save me." And the whole Ziva inquisition this season, with Gibbs coming to her rescue again. *lesigh*)

So which is it? Platonic/fatherly, or something more? Whatchya think, fellow NCIS-ers?

Things that Happen on Mondays

~ I awake at 4:30 -frikin-am because the spawnling has gotten up 30 minutes before his bottle. And damnit, I NEEDED those 30 minutes of sleep!

~ Check my bank account online - my paycheck hasn't deposited. Awesome.

~ I go into work a full hour early. Because I've been up all morning and don't have anything else to do after dropping Spawnling at daycare.

~ An unscheduled tour shows up right at lunch time, when my mom has come over to take me out to lunch.

~Mozilla/Firefox seems to work better than IE. For some reason, I can't view any YouTube embedded video on websites with IE, but I can with Mozilla. Weird.

~ Just watched the promo for this week's BONES episode (not that I watch the show) and I want that 30 seconds of my life back. Yes. THAT bad.

~ Need to work on my Mentalist "7 Deadly Sins" fic, but I need a knew idea for 'Sloth' ("Hey you guys!" @ [info]effie214 ) because everything I keep coming up with is fluffy and preexisting relationship Jane/Lisbon. And I don't want that. I prefer them like they are in the show - dancing around the angst and tension and the 'what else is there'.

Oh lookie! New iTunes music! *distraction-zoom!*
